Q: What makes Sofwave™’s SUPERB™ technology effective?
“It’s the way that the ultrasound energy is delivered. It’s delivered in a cylindrical pattern (think of a shape of a cylinder) which is parallel to the epidermis. It’s able to deliver an intense amount of energy without affecting the epidermis.
So clinically that means it doesn’t cause any downtime or any disruption to the epidermis. There’s no swelling, no risk of hyperpigmentation, and no redness. You can deliver high energy cause there’s no injury to the epidermis. You get more consistent results because you are able to deliver that needed energy.”
Q: So Sofwave™ does not affect the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System or SMAS layer at all?
“No, it’s just the dermis. You’re at 1.5 mm [so that’s the dermis] which is where you get optimal collagen remodeling. “
Q: Is it true that at 1.5 mm depth, this is where collagen starts to form?
“Yes!”
Q: What is your professional opinion about devices claiming that reaching the deeper layers guarantee longer-lasting results?
“[Those kinds of devices] go deep into the SMAS. First, that causes more pain. Second, that causes increased risk of nerve injury which can lead to temporary paralysis
And I think the idea is that you get more tightening but clinically that’s not what we are seeing. I think patients, in my experience, were more disappointed with the results from such treatment. As compared to Sofwave™, my patients have been coming back happier.
Also, because their treatment is so painful, patients don’t want to do [the other treatment] again. With Sofwave™, patients come back regularly. They are happy to come back.”
Q: Could you say that those kinds of treatments are too much for the skin to handle?
“Well, I wouldn’t say that it’s too much. I would say that going deeper doesn’t produce better results. It just produces more pain and more risk of injury.”
Q: Based on your experience [as a doctor], could you describe the most impressive results that happened with your patients?
I commonly treat face and neck, and I could say that neck tightening is very impressive. Not many things are safe for the neck. Also, I see a lot of great eyelid lift. Really, overall tightening and lifting for any area of the body and face.
Q: How many Sofwave™ treatments do you recommend?
“Only one treatment is necessary for reproducible results. If you want more improvement, you can do another one in 3 months. But only one is necessary and then you do it only once a year.”
